Huaran will be the starting point where we will meet the muleteers and load the horses with the camping equipment. Leaving the Sacred Valley behind, following a gentle ascending path along the small Cancha Cancha river. It takes approximately 6 hours to reach our destination, a small town called Cancha Cancha (3,800 m/12,477 ft) where we will spend the night.
Leaving Cancha Cancha, we continue walking through the valley, passing small stone houses with thatched roofs, huge mountain ranges and stratified landscapes typical of Peru. After 2 hours, the road stabilizes and we reach the highest pass called Pachacutec Pass (4,758 masl/15,610 feet). Filled with joy and relief at reaching the summit, and captivated by the magnificent views of Lake Pachacutec and the snow-capped peaks of Pitusiray, we take the moment to enjoy the stunning sites before us and allow the sun's rays to replenish us. We then headed downhill for the next 2 hours to enjoy lunch. Thus we continued descending for another hour and a half towards the several glacial lakes in the valley, herds of alpacas, llamas and sheep. Tonight we camp at (3,870 meters above sea level/12,694 feet) near the town of Quishuarani, with its typical stone and thatched Inca houses.
When we reach the halfway point of our hike, it's time to tackle the second mountain pass, the Hillkiccasa Pass (4,200 masl/13,779 feet). As we walk, we marvel at the views of the rugged, pointed mountains of the Peruvian Andes, as nature surrounds us in its purest form. The majestic mountains of Colquecruz and Pitusiray are impressive to observe from the pass. We continue our hike through Puna grasslands, rolling and productive agricultural sites, and pristine natural lakes. After 5 hours of walking we arrived at Cuncani, a small Inca community. From Cuncani we descend through a lush valley with extensive agricultural areas, fruit trees, varied flora and native flowers such as begonias and wild orchids. Finally, we arrive at our destination, Lares Town (3,100 masl/10,170 feet), where we can't wait to soak in the natural volcanic hot springs for an hour, have lunch, and take a nap. Thus we will be transferred to Ollantaytambo where we spend the night.
From kilometer 104, where we began our walk to the archaeological remains of Chachabamba, from there we will continue until we reach the archaeological remains of Wiñay huayna where we will enjoy lunch to continue the walk to Inti Punku (Puerta del Sol) here we will have the first view of Machu Picchu and then we will go to the control and entrance gate of the citadel of Machu Picchu where the bus takes us down to Aguas Calientes; Here we will spend the night, have dinner and prepare for our visit to Machu Picchu the next day.
